Depending on which category you are applying for voluntary severance under, the next steps are as follows:

    2. Organisational Change

As you are aware your request will be required to be considered alongside the directorates change plans, therefore if you would like at this stage to proceed with your application for voluntary severance you must, at that point, enter into discussions with your line manager. HR will notify your line manager that you have chosen to proceed with voluntary severance and your line manager will meet with you to confirm that your request has been noted and provide a timeline as to when a decision will be made on whether you can be released. Normally employees will not be notified of a decision until all posts in the ring fence have been filled and the employee is placed on the redeployment register.

This will enable their request to be considered alongside the directorates change plans at an early stage of the organisational change process.

    3. Redeployment Register

As previously mentioned, this will be facilitated automatically provided that no suitable alternative post has been identified and finance confirms that the request for voluntary severance is affordable. Requests will be considered on an individual basis; however, the final decision will take into account NES’s ability to fund such requests in any one financial year.

  • Who can request volutary severance estimate?NHS Education for Scotland

To be eligible for Voluntary Severance you must be a permanent employee of NES, and have at least 2 years service. There are 3 situations that allow for an employee to request Voluntary Severance. The first is through the NES Voluntary Severance Scheme which opened on 9 October 2015.
    1. Voluntary Severance Scheme
The financial environment in which NHSScotland and NES are operating is continuing to be significantly financially constrained. We are continuing with our efficiency and improvement programmes and have therefore decided to offer a further round of Voluntary Severance/Early Retirement from Friday 9 October 2015 for a time limited period.  Expressions of Interest will be accepted from 9 October to 23 October 2015.
It is very likely that only a small number of applications will be accepted. In particular, applications will only be accepted where they enable the deletion of posts from the NES establishment.
If you are interested in applying for voluntary severance please review the Voluntary Severance Terms document carefully. The application and selection processes are described in detail. This document should answer many of your initial questions about the voluntary severance scheme, however, contact details for enquiries can be found in the document or you can e mail general enquiries to Voluntary.Severance@nes.scot.nhs.uk

    2. Organisational Change

Employees’ in scope’ for organisational change will have the opportunity to note their interest in voluntary severance/early retirement. This will enable their request to be considered alongside the directorates change plans at an early stage of the organisational change process.

    3. Redeployment register

If an employee is placed on the redeployment register they may request early retirement/voluntary severance. This will be facilitated automatically provided that no suitable alternative post has been identified and finance confirms that the request for voluntary severance is affordable. Requests will be considered on an individual basis; however, the final decision will take into account NES’s ability to fund such requests in any one financial year.
