The Scottish Government Youth Employment Strategy is focused on an “all government and all Scotland approach” to supporting young people into the workforce. The strategy states that the National Health Service is a major employer in Scotland who offers a wide range of job and work experience opportunities. It encourages all “NHS Boards to offer apprenticeship opportunities to young people and to identify work experience opportunities for young people within the health service.”

National Services Scotland
NSS recognises the challenges of the current economic climate and understand that young people are facing difficulty securing employment. NSS is committed to delivering a Youth Employment Strategy that will equip young people with the work experience, knowledge and skills to support them pursuing a promising career in the NHS.
We have a number of current initiatives in place such as Modern Apprenticeships, student placement’s and work experience. We are also considering new initiatives to target Graduates and Graduate Apprenticeships.

We offer initiatives such as Foundation, Modern and Graduate Apprenticeships, student placements and work experience.
We also work closely with Prince's Trust and Who Cares? Scotland, and have successfully placed several employees into roles within the organisation.

Scottish Ambulance Service
Modern Apprentices are usually brought in on a Fixed Term Contract for 2 years during which time they will study towards a qualification in their chosen discipline over a period of 12-24 months depending on level.
Modern Apprenticeships help employers to develop their workforce by training new staff, and upskilling existing employees. For individuals, an MA is a job which lets them earn a wage and gain an industry-recognised qualification. Apprenticeships are designed to tackle potential skills gaps, and support new or existing employees to develop.
There are already more than 37,000 young people working, learning and earning as Modern Apprentices. 91% of apprentices still in employment six months after completing their Modern Apprenticeship; and 96% of employers say former apprentices are better equipped to do their job.
